kite

The Pegas Kitesports company specializes in the development and production of ram air kites. In the air, kites of this kind form a wing shape that is the result of overpressure inside the canopy. The canopy consists of top and bottom sides - those surfaces are interconnected by means of ribs. The ribs have a wing profile and are equipped with holes that enable the pressure inside the canopy to equalize and thus to inflate the kite correctly. In flight, kites of such construction form a profile similar to the one of an aeroplane wing - that is why they create an optimal pull considering their surface area. That makes them more efficient than the other kites. Tentatively it holds true that ram air kites achieve the same performance as the types with an inflating frame using about 1/3 smaller surface area.

Kites of the Chimera and Banshee types are ideal for all the land applications (bodykiting, buggykiting, snowkiting etc.) The Gryphon type with a closed leading edge (containing inflating valves only) is constructed for use in water - kiteboarding, but it is possible to use it on the land as well. We offer the Pluto type (two-lined) or the Pluto R type (four-lined) for training the basics of steering and also for the youngest kiters.

The kites can be controlled either using handles or a bar. The types using the bar are moreover equipped with the so called depower system - a very useful tool that enables you to regulate the pull - the performance of your kite.

If you want to begin with powerkiting but have not yet been initiated into all its mysteries, we will try to give you advice on choosing the right equipment.

Depower system

The depower system enables you to continuously change the angle of the leading edge and the curvature of the canopy profile (in contrast to that, the types controlled using handles only brake the trailing edge). This way you can control the speed and performance of the kite in a better way. Using this system distinctly increases the comfort of controlling the kite and substantially enhances the possibilities of the ram air kites for powerkiting. It enables better utilitizing of its performance - you will gain perfect control of the kite even in rather strong wind. Its other advantage is the possibility to transfer the main pull to the harness line, to which the supporting lines are connected using a safety catch. Only one hand is sufficient to control the kite with a bar, which is expedient not only while riding, but also while manipulating with the kite when launching or landing. Without the possibility to control the kite one-handed the performance of many stunts would be impossible.

Using a kite with the depower system is recommended especially for snowkiting and kiteboarding, perhaps also for mountainboarding. Nevertheless, it is also suitable for other powerkiting activities including the buggy.

DePower System

Pegas WingWrap depower system

DePower System vyvazani

The WingWrap Depower System was initially developed for the new Chimera concept - a kite that can be controlled either with handles or with a bar using the depower. WingWrap consists of a set of lines with pulleys that are inserted between the tying lines of the canopy and the steering lines. The basic version of the Chimera and Banshee types (controlled using handles) can be supplemented with this depower set. The changeover of the two sorts is very simple and fast. Colour marking of the ending knots corresponds with the colour marking of the original Pegas steering lines. Thus the assembling of the kite itself is very simple and parts cannot be interchanged.

WingWrap Depower System is used in two variations - ww/2 for the Chimera type with a single pulley and a two-pulley ww/3 system for the Banshee and Gryphon types. The efficiency of this system is extremely high, the unique "depower effect" makes launching easier even in a strong wind. At the same time it absorbs the brief gusts. After you let go of the bar, the kite quickly flies to the edge of the wind window, where it stays in a stable position with minimal pull.
